Hope Overflowing
Frequently Asked Questions
Our vision is Imperfect People, Perfect Hope in Jesus. The Hope Overflowing campaign is an opportunity for our church family to prayerfully invest in the future ministry of Hope Summit, creating spaces where more people can encounter Jesus, build relationships, and find hope.
The following questions address the vision, building plans, campaign finances, giving opportunities, and what to expect as we move forward.
Our Vision and the Purpose of Hope Overflowing
1. What is Hope Overflowing?
Hope Overflowing is a campaign to prepare Hope Summit Christian Church for the next season of ministry. As our church continues to grow, we have an opportunity to improve our building so it better supports the ministry God has called us to do.
The campaign focuses on creating welcoming, functional, and secure spaces where people can gather, build relationships, and hear the Gospel.
Our vision remains the same: Imperfect People, Perfect Hope in Jesus. Hope Overflowing is about creating the space and opportunities to live out that vision for years to come.
2. Why are we doing a capital campaign?
Over the past several years, Hope Summit has experienced significant growth, with attendance increasing approximately 18% over the last three years.
Our current building has served us well, but some areas are no longer meeting the needs of our growing congregation. We need more gathering space, a safer and more dedicated children's area, and an entry experience that better welcomes people into our church.
A capital campaign allows us to come together as a church family to address these needs while being thoughtful stewards of the resources God provides.
3. Is a capital campaign biblical?
Yes. Throughout Scripture, we see examples of God's people giving above and beyond their regular giving to support the work He has called them to do.
These examples include building and maintaining places of worship, supporting ministry, advancing missions, and caring for those in need.
Examples include Exodus 35, 1 Chronicles 29, and 2 Corinthians 8–9. These passages remind us that generosity is an act of worship and an opportunity to respond faithfully to God's provision.
Hope Overflowing is an opportunity for our church family to come together in prayer, generosity, and faith as we prepare for the future ministry of Hope Summit.
4. Is this campaign just about raising money or making our building bigger?
No. While financial commitments and building improvements are important parts of the campaign, the purpose is much bigger than either one.
We want to create spaces that help us welcome people, build relationships, disciple children and families, and share the hope of Jesus.
Our desire is to reach more people with the Gospel and continue ministering to imperfect people who need a perfect hope in Jesus.
Ultimately, we pray that all credit and glory for what is accomplished will go to God. We want to be faithful stewards of what He provides and recognize that the ministry and provision belong to Him.
5. What is the intended outcome of the Hope Overflowing sermon series?
While financial commitments are an important part of the campaign, our hope for the sermon series goes well beyond a financial goal.
We pray that this series will cultivate a lasting spirit of generosity in each of our lives. It is an opportunity to reflect on God's provision, recognize that we are stewards of what He has entrusted to us, and personally seek Him as we grow in faith and trust.
Generosity is not limited to a one-time gift. We hope this experience strengthens a lifelong discipline of generosity and supporting the ministry of Hope Summit, as we continue to live out our vision: Imperfect People, Perfect Hope in Jesus.
6. How does Hope Overflowing connect to our church's vision?
Our vision is Imperfect People, Perfect Hope in Jesus.
Everything we do as a church should support that vision. The improvements being considered through Hope Overflowing are intended to help us welcome people, create meaningful opportunities for connection, support families and children, and provide spaces where people can grow in their relationship with Jesus.
The building is a tool for ministry. The ultimate goal is to create more opportunities for people to experience the hope of Jesus.
Building Plans and Project Scope
7. What are the primary building improvements being considered?
The campaign focuses on three primary ministry priorities:
A secure, dedicated children's area that makes arrival and drop-off easier for families and provides a safer environment for children.
An expanded lobby and foyer that gives people more room to gather, connect, and move between services.
A clearly identifiable and inviting entrance from the parking lot to the worship center, helping people know where to go when they arrive.
In addition to these priorities, the project will address important deferred maintenance and safety needs within the building.
8. What types of building improvements are being considered?
As we work with Station 19 Architects, we are evaluating a range of improvements to address our ministry needs and the long-term stewardship of our building. These include:
Light refreshes: Improvements such as paint, carpeting, and window coverings to refresh existing spaces.
Remodeling: Changes to existing areas, which may include restrooms, entry points, and other spaces that affect how we gather and use the building.
New construction: Adding portions to the existing building to address ministry needs, improve functionality, and create additional space.
The final scope will depend on the campaign's results, available resources, and the development of buildable plans. The conceptual plans will help us visualize how these different types of improvements could work together.
9. Why do we need a larger lobby and gathering space?
Our current foyer is approximately 750 square feet and can accommodate only about 30–40 people sitting or standing comfortably.
As our congregation has grown, this space has become increasingly crowded, particularly between services. We would ideally like to create approximately four to five times the current gathering space.
An expanded lobby would provide room for people to connect, welcome new visitors, and build relationships without feeling crowded. It would also improve movement through the building and support fellowship as our church continues to grow.
10. Why is creating a secure children's area a priority?
The safety of our children is a key priority of the Hope Overflowing project.
Our goal is to create a dedicated, secured children's area where parents can sign their children in before they enter the space. Access to the secured area would be limited to designated volunteers, helping ensure that children are appropriately supervised and that access is controlled.
We also intend to eliminate the current thoroughfare through the hallway outside the children's classrooms, reducing unnecessary traffic through the children's area.
Under the conceptual approach, the current entry door would become a secured fire exit rather than a regular entrance.
The final layout and security procedures will be developed as we move from conceptual plans to buildable plans, with the safety of our children and the needs of our families guiding those decisions.
11. What deferred maintenance and safety needs are included in the project?
In addition to the primary ministry priorities, we are evaluating several important building needs:
Boiler: Our boiler is original to the building and has required increasing repairs. Ideally, we would replace it with a modern, efficient system that provides redundancy and reduces ongoing operating costs.
Roof: The roof will need replacement within approximately the next five years. Addressing it during construction could allow us to manage the work and costs more efficiently.
Fire suppression: Our current fire suppression system serves only the basement. While the main building has been grandfathered under existing requirements, remodeling and additions will require fire suppression in other areas of the building.
These items are included in the overall project estimate of $3.5–4.5 million. While they are not the three primary ministry goals of the campaign, they are important safety, maintenance, and stewardship priorities.
12. Why isn't expanding the worship center a primary focus of the project?
We did evaluate plans and options that would expand portions of our current worship center. However, those options would add significantly to the overall project cost.
At this time, our worship center is meeting our needs, while other areas of the building present more immediate ministry, safety, and accessibility priorities. We want to be thoughtful stewards of the resources God provides and focus first on the areas with the greatest ministry impact.
As attendance continues to grow, we will look for creative ways to accommodate more people, including adding worship services as needed.
13. What about our basement? Were improvements considered?
Yes. We worked with Station 19 Architects to evaluate the basement and consider how it might better support our ministry. However, there are several challenges with making significant changes to this space.
Accessibility is one of those challenges. Installing an elevator or lift would represent a substantial portion of the overall project cost and would also introduce ongoing operating and maintenance expenses.
Additionally, much of the basement's construction is structural, supporting the wide-open Chapel area above it. This limits the changes that can reasonably be made to the space.
Our youth will continue to use the basement as a gathering space for Sunday activities and other ministry gatherings. While we explored potential improvements, the cost and structural considerations led us to prioritize other areas of the building.
14. Who is Station 19 Architects, and why were they selected?
Station 19 Architects was selected following a request-for-proposal process involving three prequalified architectural firms.
The firm has experience working with churches and understanding the unique needs of ministry spaces. Their role is to help us evaluate our building, develop conceptual plans, and ultimately create buildable plans that align with our ministry priorities and available resources.
15. Are the building plans finalized?
No. The plans currently available are conceptual plans. They help illustrate possible ways to address our building needs, but they are not yet detailed, buildable construction plans.
Following the campaign, we will work with Station 19 Architects to evaluate the results, adjust the conceptual plans to fit the available resources, and develop buildable plans.
The final scope and design will depend on the campaign results, project costs, and the planning and permitting process.
16. What is the estimated cost of the project?
The current estimated project cost is between $3.5 million and $4.5 million.
The range reflects the fact that the final scope of the project will be adjusted based on the campaign's results and the resources available.
This estimate includes the primary ministry improvements, deferred maintenance, and safety needs being considered. As the plans become more detailed, we will have a clearer understanding of the final project cost.
Campaign Goals and Financial Stewardship
17. What is the financial goal of the Hope Overflowing campaign?
Our campaign goal is $500,000 in commitments, with a challenge goal of $1 million.
These amounts represent the contributions we are asking our church family to commit to the campaign. They are not the total cost of the building project.
The overall project is currently estimated at $3.5–4.5 million and is expected to be funded through a combination of campaign contributions, a portion of church savings, and responsible financing for the remaining balance.
18. Why is the campaign goal less than the overall project cost?
The campaign is one part of the overall funding plan. We believe these are realistic goals, and are praying that God provides over and above these goals.
In addition to campaign contributions, we anticipate using a portion of Hope Summit's savings and responsible financing to fund the project.
Our intention is to balance the resources God provides through the campaign with the church's existing resources and responsible borrowing, while protecting the ongoing ministry and financial health of Hope Summit.
19. What happens if we do not reach the campaign goal?
If the campaign does not reach its goal, we will work with Station 19 Architects to adjust the conceptual plans and project scope to fit the resources available.
Our priority will be to address the most important ministry, safety, and stewardship needs while being responsible with the resources God provides.
The project will be shaped by the campaign results, and we will make thoughtful decisions about what can be accomplished within the available budget.
20. What happens if we reach or exceed the $1 million challenge goal?
Reaching or exceeding the challenge goal would provide additional resources for the project and reduce the amount of financing needed.
If campaign contributions and other available resources exceed the estimated project cost of $4.5 million, we would evaluate other building needs and determine how those additional resources could best support the ongoing ministry and stewardship of our facility.
Any funds exceeding the final project cost would be directed toward other expenditures addressing needs within the building.
21. How will Hope Summit pay for the project?
We anticipate funding the project through a combination of:
Contributions committed through the Hope Overflowing campaign.
A portion of Hope Summit's existing savings.
Responsible financing for the remaining balance, as needed.
Our commitment is to be thoughtful and responsible in how we use the resources God has entrusted to us. We will adjust the project scope based on the campaign results and available resources, while ensuring that ongoing ministry remains supported.
22. Is Hope Summit currently carrying debt?
No. Hope Summit is currently debt-free.
As we consider the building project, we are committed to responsible borrowing and ensuring that any financing supports the long-term ministry and financial health of the church.
23. How long will Hope Summit carry financing debt for the project?
Hope Summit is currently debt-free, and we are committed to remaining responsible stewards of the resources God provides.
If financing is needed to complete the project, our intention is to borrow responsibly and repay that financing over the shortest feasible period, while ensuring that we do not overextend the church or negatively impact ongoing ministry.
The amount and duration of any financing will depend on the campaign results, the final project scope, and the resources available. Our goal is to complete the improvements in a way that supports the ministry of Hope Summit both today and for years to come.
24. Will campaign contributions affect our regular church giving?
Campaign contributions are intended to be above and beyond regular giving.
Our regular giving supports the ongoing ministry and operations of Hope Summit, including staff, ministry programs, and the day-to-day expenses of the church.
The Hope Overflowing campaign provides an additional opportunity to support the future of our building and ministry. We encourage everyone to prayerfully consider what God may be calling them to give while continuing to support the ongoing ministry of the church.
25. Are donations to the Hope Overflowing campaign tax deductible?
Yes. Donations made to Hope Summit, including gifts designated for the Hope Overflowing campaign, are tax deductible to the extent permitted by applicable law.
Because individual tax circumstances vary, we encourage you to consult with your own tax professional regarding the deductibility of your gift and any potential tax implications.
26. What will happen on Celebration Sunday, December 6?
Celebration Sunday will be a special opportunity for our church family to pause and give thanks to God for His provision throughout the Hope Overflowing campaign.
During the service, we will share the total amount of commitments made toward the campaign and celebrate what God has done through the generosity and faithfulness of our congregation.
As commitments are fulfilled over the anticipated 25-month giving period, we will periodically communicate our progress toward the total commitment amount, allowing the congregation to celebrate God's continued provision and the progress of the campaign together.
Participating in Hope Overflowing
27. How can I participate in the Hope Overflowing campaign?
We encourage everyone to begin with prayer and ask God how He is calling them to participate.
Our campaign invites the congregation to participate in three ways:
Courageously: Consider making a significant one-time gift as part of your overall commitment.
Consistently: Commit to giving regularly over the anticipated 25-month giving period.
Creatively: Consider other resources or assets God may have entrusted to you that could be used to support the campaign.
Every person and family has a different financial situation. Our hope is that each of us will prayerfully consider how we can participate in a way that reflects our faith and trust in God's provision.
28. What does “Courageously” mean?
Courageously refers to making a significant one-time gift to the Hope Overflowing campaign.
On Commitment Sunday, November 22, we invite each person and family to consider making the largest one-time gift they have ever given to Hope Summit.
This gift can be counted as part of your overall campaign commitment, rather than being in addition to the commitment you make for the campaign.
We encourage everyone to prayerfully consider what a courageous step of generosity might look like for them.
29. What does “Consistently” mean?
Consistently refers to fulfilling your campaign commitment through regular giving over the anticipated 25-month period.
We anticipate that the regular giving period will begin in December 2026. The exact timing and giving instructions will be communicated as the campaign moves forward.
These gifts are intended to be above and beyond regular church giving and can be made on a schedule that works for your circumstances.
30. What does “Creatively” mean?
Creatively encourages us to consider the different resources God may have entrusted to us beyond our regular income.
This might include proceeds from selling assets, stock, cryptocurrency, vehicles, boats, jewelry, land, or other items. It could also include garage sales, fundraisers, or other creative ways to generate funds for the campaign.
We recognize that everyone's financial situation is different. We encourage you to prayerfully consider what resources you may be able to contribute.
For questions about non-cash gifts or other giving arrangements, please contact Finance@hopesummitchurch.com.
31. When do I make my campaign commitment?
Commitment Sunday is November 22, 2026.
This will be the opportunity for our church family to come together and share their commitments to Hope Overflowing.
We encourage everyone to take time in prayer before Commitment Sunday, asking God how He is calling them to participate and what a faithful response might look like for their family.
32. When will campaign giving begin, and how long will it continue?
We anticipate that regular campaign giving will begin in December 2026 and continue over a 25-month period.
The giving period is intended to provide flexibility for people to fulfill their commitments over time.
Specific giving instructions and details will be communicated as we approach Commitment Sunday and begin the giving period.
Campaign Timeline and Construction
33. What are the key dates for Hope Overflowing?
October 29 and November 1, 2026 - Vision Nights
November 20–21, 2026 - 24-Hour Prayer
November 22, 2026 - Commitment Sunday
December 6, 2026 - Celebration Sunday
Late spring 2027 (ideal) - Target for groundbreaking, subject to campaign results, plans, and permitting.
34. What will happen during the Vision Nights?
Our Vision Nights on October 29 and November 1 will be an opportunity for the Hope Summit family to come together and look toward the future of our church.
During these gatherings, we will:
Share the future vision for Hope Summit and the ministry needs behind Hope Overflowing.
Present the conceptual building plans developed with Station 19 Architects.
Provide time for questions and answers.
Enjoy fellowship and time together as a church family.
We hope these evenings will build excitement, encourage conversation, and help everyone better understand how the campaign supports our vision of Imperfect People, Perfect Hope in Jesus.
35. When do we expect construction to begin?
Our ideal goal is to break ground in late spring 2027.
However, this timeline depends on several factors, including the results of the campaign, the development of buildable plans, and city planning and permitting requirements.
As we move through these steps, we will communicate updates and provide a clearer timeline as details become available.
36. When will the project be completed?
At this point, we do not have a confirmed completion date.
The timing will depend on the final scope of the project, the development and approval of construction plans, permitting, and the construction process itself.
We will share more information as the plans progress and a reliable timeline can be established.
37. Will church services and ministry continue during construction?
Yes. Our intention is to continue worship services and ministry activities throughout the construction process.
We recognize that construction may require temporary changes to where groups meet, how people move through the building, and how certain spaces are used.
As plans develop, we will evaluate potential disruptions and communicate changes to the congregation so that everyone knows what to expect.
Our goal is to minimize disruption as much as possible while continuing to support the ministry of Hope Summit.
Congregational Involvement and Other Questions
38. How will the congregation stay informed about the campaign and building project?
We are committed to keeping the congregation informed as the campaign and building project progress.
We will communicate important updates at key moments, including campaign milestones, building plan developments, and construction-related information.
We also encourage everyone to attend the Vision Nights, ask questions, and stay engaged as we move forward together.
39. I want to be more involved in the building changes. What can I do?
Hope Summit consistently needs volunteers in many areas to support our ongoing ministry. Whether serving during worship services, working with children and youth, greeting people, or helping maintain our grounds, there are many ways to get involved.
At this stage, we do not yet know what specific volunteer opportunities may arise as the building project develops. However, we would love to hear from those interested in helping and will communicate opportunities as they become available.
If you would like to express your interest or learn more, please contact us at HopeOverflowing@hopesummitchurch.com.
40. What is happening with the 48th Street property?
The 48th Street property was originally purchased as a potential location for a future church facility.
After prayerful consideration and evaluation of our current ministry needs, leadership believes our calling is to remain in the Meadow Park neighborhood and invest in the building where God has placed us.
We are considering selling the 48th Street property, with the proceeds potentially helping fund improvements to our current building and reducing the amount of financing needed.
No final decision has been made, and the property has not been listed for sale. We will communicate further information as decisions are made.
41. How can I ask additional questions about Hope Overflowing?
